NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The LIU softball team wrapped up its weekend series against CCSU on Sunday afternoon in extra inning fashion, defeating the Blue Devils 2-1 in 10 innings.
CCSU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but the Sharks responded to tie the game in the second off of a Dallas Andrew's double.
From there, the game was an absolute pitchers duel with both athletes in the circle going 10 innings. Lindsey Cowans got the better of CCSU's lineup and threw nine scoreless after allowing one run in the first, striking out six.
Lily Hinkle drove in the would-be winning run on a sacrifice fly and Cowans would shut the door as the Sharks completed a three game sweep.
LIU returns to the field on Friday when they travel to take on first place Saint Francis U for a three game series.
