BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU softball team took the field Sunday afternoon, looking for a three game sweep of Stonehill.
The Sharks struck first on an RBI single from
Alexia Castro but the bats went quiet as Stonehill took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. LIU responded in the fifth, regaining the lead with RBI singles from Emma Nieve and
Jaedyn Lincoln but could not crack the scoreboard after that. The Skyhawks would rally with some small ball, tying the game in the sixth and then winning it in the tenth thanks to the 10th inning ghost runner.
Gabby Padilla went 2-4 and made a web gem at third, diving to catch a popped up bunt.
Alyssa Polemeni went 3-5 with three singles.
Lindsey Cowans pitched all 10 innings, striking out seven and dropped her season ERA to 3.09.
