LORETTO, Pa. — The LIU women's lacrosse team traveled to Saint Francis U on Saturday afternoon to kick off conference play.
The Sharks set the tone early in the first period, with goals from Olivia Fantigrossi, Gina Toscano, Ava Taylor, Rachel Weber, Erin Harkins, and Julia Trainor. SFU cracked the scoreboard with a goal, but the Sharks continued to dominate the first half, ending with a 6-1 lead.
The Red Flash fought back in the second period, scoring three in a row but Trainor responded with her second goal to make it 7-4 at the half.
The Sharks kept momentum in the second half, responding with a goal whenever SFU tried to mount a comeback. Fantigrossi and Taylor continued to shine for LIU as they helped secure a 11-6 win.
Lily Bilello had a nice day in goal with six crucial saves.
The Sharks return to the field on Wednesday at 3 p.m. when they travel to Sacred Heart.
