FORT MYERS, Fla. — The LIU softball team opened up its season on Friday morning in the FGCU Kickoff Classic. 

The Sharks were anchored by pitching performances from Lindsey Cowans and Alyssa O'Donnell who allowed only a combined five runs over 14 innings and struck out eight. Unfortunately for LIU, runs were hard too come by as they lost to Louisville 2-0 and Boston College 3-0. 

Alexia Castro had a very nice day at the play, going 4-7 with four singles.

Priscilla Gillies and Dallas Andrews both contributed two hits and a walk a piece. 

Gabby Padilla led the team with eight infield assists, Mari Narvaiz had five.

The Sharks return to field Saturday morning when they take on Boston College once again at 10 a.m.
