BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU men's basketball team was in a fight with first place Merrimack on Thursday night.
In a game that saw that 79 free-throws attempted the Sharks led for a majority of it, leading by 11 in the second half. The Warriors stormed back, taking the lead for themselves and looked to take home a victory until
Tana Kopa sent the game to overtime with three seconds left.
The battle continued in overtime period as neither team could pull away, unfortunately for LIU a few missed shots would be its demise and it fell 82-79.
Eric Acker recorded a double-double with a team-high 18 points and 11 assists, shooting 6-15 from the floor.
Tana Kopa scored 17, shooting 57% from three.
Tai Strickland and
Nikola Djapa were tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven. Strickland also led the team with six steals.
The Sharks return to the court on Saturday at 8 p.m. when they host Sacred Heart on SNY.
