DELAND, Fla. — The LIU softball team continued its trip to the Stetson Invitational on Saturday and picked up and impressive power five victory over Maryland, 3-0.
Lindsey Cowans threw an absolute gem, allowing only five hits and striking out two in a complete game shutout. She also helped her own cause at the plate, hitting her first home run of the season.
Emma Niece had a big game at the plate, driving in
Alexia Castro twice on two singles.
In the second game of the day, the Sharks led Stetson 3-2 in the fifth after
Alyssa Polemeni's second home run of the season and a Cowans RBI single. Unfortunately for LIU, the Hatters would respond with four runs in the bottom half of the fifth. The Sharks tried to claw their way back but could not drive in the runs the needed as they fell 6-3.
The Sharks return to the field Sunday morning for their second match up against Green Bay in the tournament.
