RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Erin Harkins scored with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to record her first career hat trick and force overtime.
However, the LIU women's lacrosse team fell in the third extra session, 8-7, to host Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon at Gaelic Park.
The Sharks had taken a 6-3 lead late in the third quarter on a goal from
Jen Gaffney, but the Jaspers responded with four unanswered goals to take a 7-6 lead into the final minute of regulation.
That's when Harkins tallied her third goal. However, Julianna Iovine scored the game-winner for Manhattan in triple-overtime.
Lily Bilello made seven saves for the Sharks.
Julia Trainor tallied two goals.
LIU quickly turns around to play at Vermont on Friday at 2 p.m. The game originally had been scheduled for Saturday, but was moved up a day to try to avoid expected inclement weather.
