SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The LIU softball team started its Friday on a high note, defeating Southern Utah by a score of 7-2.
The Sharks jumped on the Thunderbirds early, scoring three in the first with RBI from
Alexia Castro,
Devon Medina and
Mari Narvaiz.
Southern Utah got one back in the second, but LIU continued to pour it on as they would add four more runs in the fourth in fifth with
Dallas Andrews,
Emma Niece, Medina and Narvaiz driving in runs.
Lindsey Cowans earned her second win of the season, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts.
The second game on Friday against Eastern Illinois was an absolute pitchers duel.
Neither team was able to break through on the scoreboard until the Panthers walked it off in the bottom of the seventh.
Alyssa O'Donnell threw a gem, allowing only one run in 6.2 innings and striking out two.
Narvaiz went 2-3 at the plate while Andrews and Castro added the two other knocks.
The Sharks return to the field on Saturday when they take on Colorado State at noon and rematch Southern Utah at 2:30 p.m.
