STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A number of LIU track and field athletes stood out this weekend at both the FastTrack National Invitational and Big Apple Invitational.
Faith Shaw set a personal record and LIU school record on Friday in the weight throw with a distance of 17.25m and then followed it up on Saturday by breaking that record with a throw of 17.76m. Shaw won the event in both meets and finished seventh in the shot put on Friday with a distance of 12.78m.
Sherene Williams and
Sade Panton had nice performances in the shot put. Williams finished eighth with a throw of 12.77m and Panton was ninth with a 12.44m.
Connor Knight set a personal record at the FastTrack National Invitational with a throw of 15.29, he finished eighth.
Elehchio Scott posted a personal record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.82 and finished sixth.
AJ Ralph set a personal record in in the long jump with a distance of 6.33m.
Xavier Wright recorded a personal record in the triple jump with a distance 13.84m.
Personal records on Friday were also set by
London Claxton (800m),
Langston Richardson (800m),
Lekh Desai (400m),
Aidan Haughian (mile),
John Schwab (5k),
Tianna Stewart (weight throw).
Season bests were posted by
Darin Cofield (800m),
Justin Rajab (800m),
Alessandra Pastor (400m),
Lexi Smith (mile) and
Cedric Dinoro (long jump).
On Saturday at the Big Apple Invitational,
Langston Richardson set a personal record in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:06.33 and won the event in a photo finish.
Makhi Theosmy won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.06.
Sade Panton set a personal record in the weight throw with a distance of 15.59m.
Personal records were also set by
Gabriela Ortuno (500m),
Makayla Berroud (60m),
Lekh Desai (200m),
Connor Knight (shot put).
Alessandra Pastor had a season best in the 500-meter dash, finishing in fifth with a time of 1:22.22.
The Sharks return on Sunday at the NEC Championships.
