HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — The LIU women's lacrosse team raced to a quick start, with
Olivia Fantigrossi scoring 38 seconds into Saturday's game.
However, Hofstra answered with five straight goals before the teams headed to halftime en route to a 13-5 victory over the Sharks in both teams' season opener at Shuart Stadium.
The game originally had been scheduled for Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium, but a late venue switch was made.
Julia Trainor and
Lindsey Lucia each had a goal and an assist for LIU. Trainor also contributed seven draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
The game marked the collegiate debuts for LIU's
Juliana Speziale and
Ava Mark.
LIU returns to action next Saturday when it hosts UMass Lowell at 11 a.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
