WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Preseason All-MAAC selection
Sean Boll produced a hat trick and added two assists. However, the LIU men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener at Monmouth, 14-10, on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.
Aidan Zuhoski and
Tom von Bargen contributed two goals apiece for the Sharks.
Zuhoski, a freshman from Riverhead, made his collegiate debut, as did teammates
Kyle Cochran (Ronkonkoma),
Ben McIsaac (Toronto) and
Joseph Doyle (Bohemia).
McIsaac also tallied his first collegiate goal – a man-up score with 71 seconds remaining in the first quarter that pulled the Sharks within 3-2. However, Monmouth answered with a pair of goals before the quarter closed and never trailed in the game.
The Hawks won 18 of 28 faceoffs to earn the edge in time of possession.
LIU next hosts Merrimack next Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in the home opener.
