Easton, P.A. — The Sharks are in Pennsylvania this holiday weekend, set to participate in the inaugural Lafayette Classic. The team will play three games in three days, beginning with the first against host Lafayette on Friday, Nov. 29 at 4:30 p.m.
LIU enters competition with momentum on its side after seeing three of its athletes take home recent NEC honors earlier this week.
Malachi Davis won NEC Player of the Week, largely in part thanks to his eruption of a season-high 31 points in the Sharks' Nov. 23 79-76 win over Charlotte. After scoring at least 22 points in each of his last three contests, Davis is now second in the NEC in scoring at 19.1 points per game, and ranks top five in the conference in several other offensive categories amongst qualified leaders, including free-throw percentage (83%, fifth), three-pointers made per game (2.1, fourth), and field goal percentage (43%, fourth).
Much like Davis, freshman
Shadrak Lasu also provided LIU with a big boost in its most recent win against Charlotte. He earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors after scoring a season-high 11 points to go with a team-leading 10 rebounds, and his double-double marked the first by an NEC rookie this season.
Joining his teammates in garnering recent praise was
Terell Strickland, who received an NEC Prime Performer nod for some of his latest contributions. The floor general currently shares the NEC lead in assists by dishing out 4.3 per contest, and has been especially prolific in his last three games, averaging 11.3 points on 59% shooting from the field to go with 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He's been a very versatile performer as of late.
The Sharks are 3-4 this season, already boasting two road victories. After tipping things off against Lafayette on Friday, games against Binghamton (Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m.) and Niagara (Sunday, Dec. 1 at 12 p.m.) will follow.
