BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Sharks fell to the Columbia Lions 80-72 after battling back in the second half.
Columbia took an early 15-5 advantage into the first media timeout. Jalen Lee sparked a 10-0 run for LIU out of the break with a jumper. The Lions would outscore the Sharks 24-13, taking a 39-28 lead into halftime.
LIU fought back in the second half. A three-pointer from Malachi Davis with 28 seconds remaining cut the Lions' lead to 73-72. Columbia extended its lead to three points on a pair of free throws. Terell Strickland missed a contested three-pointer in the final seconds, the Sharks' last chance to tie the game.
Davis led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Strickland and Blake Landers also scored in double figures, finishing with 15 and 11 points, respectively. Strickland also led LIU with six rebounds and six assists.
LIU outscored Columbia 44-41 in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Lions' halftime lead.
Next up for the Sharks is a five-game road trip, beginning with a Nov. 23 showdown against Charlotte at 12:30 p.m.
