Charlotte, N.C. — Malachi Davis scored a season-high 31 points as the Sharks withstood a late game run by its opponent to pick up a 79-76 win over Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.
Davis -- LIU's leading scorer -- was absolutely phenomenal, shooting 9 of 18 from the field, connecting on four shots from long range, and perhaps most importantly, sinking all nine of his shots from the free-throw line. He scored 19 of his points in the first half alone and played a key role as LIU built up its lead to as many as 24 points at one point.
Charlotte mounted a comeback attempt, cutting the Sharks' lead to two. That's when Davis truly put his hero cape on, as if he hadn't already been wearing it all game long. With a win on the line, the redshirt junior made four clutch free throws in the game's final sixteen seconds to help LIU put Charlotte away for good and secure the victory.
Following Davis' lead,
Terell Strickland added 13 points while dishing out a season-high 7 assists for the Sharks, and
Shadrak Lasu tallied a double-double with his own season-high of 11 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds.
With the win, LIU has now improved to 3-3 on the campaign. The team will next visit Winthrop on Monday, Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m.
