BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU Athletics is pleased to announce the promotion of
Holden Capps to Assistant Coach – Recruiting Coordinator, and other new additions to the baseball staff, including Nate Vigeant (Assistant Coach – Hitting) and Adam Whitacre (Director of Player Development/ Outfield Coach).
Capps originally joined the Sharks prior to the 2023 season, serving as pitching coach. Previously, Capps was drafted by the Kansas City Royals out of the University of Central Oklahoma in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB draft. He played professionally with the organization through the 2022 season, making 114 minor league appearances (18 starts).
"This is a well-earned honor for Holden. In his time here, he has had a huge impact on the pitching staff, as well as proven himself as a recruiter," head coach
Dan Pirillo said. "He's been a mentor to the players and helped them develop as young men and baseball players. I'm grateful to have Holden apart of the program."
Vigeant comes to Brookville after spending two seasons at St. John's, where he worked with the infielders and assisted with the development of the hitters. Vigeant was a part of the 2024 Big East Coaching Staff Of The Year while capturing the Big East Championship title. Prior to joining St. John's, Vigeant spent the 2022 season as hitting coach of the Winnipesaukee Muskrats in the New England Collegiate League, and spent four seasons (2017-21) playing at Rhode Island College and one season at St. Andrew's University (2022).
Whitacre joins the Sharks having played for Radford University from 2016-20, where his accomplishments included batting .400 as a redshirt senior.
Discussing the new additions to his staff, head coach Pirillo added, "Nate comes to us with a strong baseball background, a high baseball IQ, and a passion for teaching the game. His energy and enthusiasm will be a huge asset to our program and Adam's passion for teaching and development will be a huge asset to our team. I'm excited to have them be a part of Sharks baseball."
