NORTH EASTON, Mass. — Jeannie Wallner's two-goal performance and
Abbie Thompson's 15-save shutout lifted LIU to its first win of the 2024-25 season, knocking off Stonehill 2-0 in the first game of a two-game series against the Skyhawks.
Waller scored off a rebound 8:48 into the contest to give LIU a 1-0 lead, with
Grace Babington and
Paige Vreeman assisting on the goal.
Waller then sealed the deal with under nine minutes to play in regulation, scoring on a power-play tip-in after a point shot from Emma Mortl.
Abbie Thompson was lights out in net for LIU, the graduate student picked up her first win as a Shark and the first shutout of her NCAA career.
"We were glad to see us come out the way we did and play that way throughout the majority of the game. It was great to see
Abbie Thompson getting her first NCAA shutout in what was a big win for the team," said head coach
Kelly Nash.
LIU wraps up its two-game series against Stonehill Saturday at 1 p.m.
