NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — The LIU women's volleyball team took on a tough Boston College team in its opening match of the Iona Invitational on Thursday. The Sharks showed life in the third set, but ultimately fell 25-12, 25-13, 25-16.
"Unfortunately, we came out a bit flat today," head coach
Amable Martinez said. "These strong power five teams like Boston College are going to make you pay when you're not at your best."
Alasha Colon added on to one of the best stat lines in the country, recording 15 more digs. Her total for the season is now 148.
Rumur Rouille,
Olivia Lucia,
Bria Plante, and
Cristal Paulino Rubel all played well at the front of the net, combining for 14 of the team's 23 blocks.
Amaris Smith had a nice day, leading LIU with nine points and seven kills while adding on four blocks.
Carla Santiago made her collegiate debut in the third set and recorded three digs.
"I'm looking forward to tomorrow," Martinez said. "I feel that we can definitely bounce back and get right back to where we want to be."
The Sharks return to the court Friday afternoon when they take on Fordham at 4 p.m.
