LIU-Duquesne Football Again Goes Down to Wire

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The series between the LIU and Duquesne football teams annually is producing dramatic finishes.

A year ago in Pittsburgh, the Sharks engineered a double-overtime victory on Luca Stanzani's 9-yard touchdown pass to Owen Glascoe and a two-point conversion reception from Michael Love.

Then, on Saturday, the Dukes returned the favor, as Brian Bruzdewicz nailed a 34-yard field goal with three seconds remaining in regulation as Duquesne defeated the Sharks, 31-28, in both teams' Northeast Conference opener at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

LIU, also playing its home opener, had evened the score with 3:33 remaining in regulation on Davon Wells' 90-yard touchdown run.

Freshman quarterback Chris Howell completed 8 of 12 passes for 105 yards and his first touchdown toss.

LIU had built a 21-7 lead on receiving and rushing touchdowns from Owen Glascoe, then Pat Bowen's 71-yard second-quarter touchdown run. However, the Dukes evened the score by halftime en route to rattling off 21 straight points.

LIU (0-4, 0-1 NEC) now turns its attention to next Saturday's noon homecoming game against Sacred Heart. The program will honor the memory of former football coach and athletic director Bryan Collins in a pregame ceremony.
