SALEM, S.C. — The LIU men's golf team saved its best round for the final day of the NCAA Regional.
Led by a seven-under 65 from NEC Rookie of the Year
Marcelo Mexsen and six-under 66 from
Kyle Underwood in his final collegiate round, the Sharks produced a final round score of 276.
The 12-under-par score was the best single round in the program's three-decade history. It was better than five other teams during the final round at the 14-team regional.
LIU finished 14th with a three-round score of 876, but nearly caught Longwood (874) on the final day.
The Sharks had fallen behind with a first-round score 308 on Monday before steadily progressing.
On Tuesday, during the second round, André Ulvenes Kleppe returned from injury. He had been out of competition since early March.
