BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU women's lacrosse team honored six seniors and celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Division II national championship on Saturday.
LIU then was edged by Sacred Heart, 7-6, at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium, although the Sharks remain entrenched in an NEC postseason spot with a 4-3 record in conference play.
Before the game, LIU's Senior Day ceremony recognized

Kelly Johnston,
Lluna Katz,
Leah Nonnenmann,
Caroline Person,
Gina Toscano and
Francesca Vasile-Cozzo.
The Sharks held 2-1 and 3-2 leads in the second quarter, and the teams were even at 3 at halftime.
Sacred Heart opened the third quarter with three consecutive goals.
LIU clawed within 7-6 on goals from
Olivia Fantigrossi with 6:58 remaining and
Ashley Magee with 1:26 remaining in the game. However, the comeback bid ended there.
At halftime, LIU welcomed back the undefeated Division II national championship team. The returnees were recognized on the field at halftime.
