MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. — Day 2 of The Spring Games was a sweeping success for the LIU softball team.
Lindsey Cowans produced her first career shutout and
Gabby Padilla had two doubles and drove in three runs in a 4-0 win against Bethune-Cookman in Saturday's first game.
Sam Garcia then belted a grand slam to highlight a six-run third inning en route to a 7-2 win against Middle Tennessee in Game 2.
Garcia's homer — which staked LIU to a 6-0 lead against Middle Tennessee — was the first grand slam by a Shark since teammate
Maya Avila had a two-homer, eight-RBI game against Sacred Heart last April 16.
Camryn Lyman's two-run single earlier in the third got the Sharks on the scoreboard against Middle Tennessee.
Earlier, against Bethune-Cookman, Cowans surrendered only four hits while striking out eight in a seven-inning complete game.
Next up: The Sharks face Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. LIU then has Monday off before resuming play Tuesday at The Spring Games.
