BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU softball team celebrated a sweep on Saturday.
The Sharks defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-2 and 7-1, at the LIU Softball Complex to take all three games to open conference play.
In the opener,
Lindsey Cowans earned the save after coaxing an inning-ending double play in the seventh to strand the potential tying run in scoring position.
Alyssa O'Donnell surrendered two runs, neither earned, on three hits over the first six innings to earn the win.
LIU took a 3-0 lead with a three-run fourth.
In Game 2,
Alexia Castro set the tone with a solo homer in the first and
Gabby Padilla went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Starter
Kira Buckner limited FDU to one run in 5 2/3 innings.
LIU (16-13, 3-0 NEC) next hosts Saint Francis U for a three-game series next weekend.
