Men's Lax Wins MAAC Debut over VMI as Mark Regan Scores Career-High 6 Goals

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU men's lacrosse team's MAAC debut was a resounding success.

Mark Regan scored six goals and the Sharks held off VMI, 14-13, on Saturday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

LIU opened the game with four straight goals in the first 3 minutes, 13 seconds.

And when the Keydets grabbed an 11-8 lead in the third quarter, the Sharks answered with five consecutive goals — capped by three straight from Regan — to take the lead for good.

VMI pulled within 13-12 with 7:14 remaining, but Brad Beck restored a two-goal cushion with 4:42 to go.

Bidding to force overtime, the Keydets were turned away on the game's final possession, with Sean Gillman making the final of his 11 saves with four seconds left.

Regan, a redshirt sophomore, finished with a career-high and team-high eight points.

Beck had four goals and an assist.

LIU was playing its first-ever MAAC game.

Next up: The Sharks (2-4, 1-0 MAAC) travel to Mount St. Mary's for game next Saturday at noon.
