BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU men's volleyball team emerged victorious while making history on Friday evening.
The Sharks defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in straight sets, 25-19, 25-14, 25-21, in the first-ever conference men's volleyball match in NEC history.
A pregame ceremony at Steinberg Wellness Center marked the inaugural match, with NEC assistant commissioner Caitlin Hughes presenting a commemorative custom print to each head coach.
"It's an honor," LIU coach
Kai Dugquem said. "These guys have been working really, really hard to play at a high level. To be able to have a conference and to be able to go to the NCAA Tournament, it's proof that men's volleyball is growing."
Kale Spencer had 17 kills to lead LIU.
Luca Holanda had 23 assists.
Gio Collazo contributed seven digs.
The Sharks play their second-ever NEC match on Saturday when they host Saint Francis at 7 p.m.
