CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Coach
Ivan Lee found positives in the LIU fencing teams' performances at the Tar Heel Invitational on Sunday.
The LIU men fell to host North Carolina 21-6 and Air Force 22-5, while the women lost to UNC 19-8 and Air Force 17-10.
"We always want to win whenever we compete, but I am pleased with the quality of fencing showed by both the men and women going up against more experienced teams," Lee said.
Boston College also was scheduled to compete on Sunday, but withdrew due to COVID-19 protocols.
Lee was particularly impressed with
Mo Elsayed. He went 5-1 on the day, improving his regular-season record to 19-2.
"Mo is having a great season. He will go to regionals as the top ranked epee fencer in the nation," Lee said. "We are looking forward to seeing him work toward a national title, which would be historic for LIU."
