EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — As the LIU men's hockey team braces for its biggest homestand of the season, Captain
Jack Quinn continues to spearhead the team's commitment to supporting the community.
Since his arrival in 2020, Quinn has been a strong supporter of community initiatives. Recently, Quinn and the Sharks had a two-hour skate session at the World Ice Area in Flushing, Queens, teaming up with Hockey in Harlem.
"It's great to have Jack here as a captain of the team. He's leading by example and bringing the teammates out here," said Hockey in Harlem Director Malik Garvin. "I think for our kids as well it's great for them to see that the captain of LIU, the leader, someone who may be the best player, also does the right thing off the ice."
Quinn and the team also dedicated two and a half hours to an outdoor skate with youth teams at the Beaver Dam Winter Sports Club in Locust Valley on Wednesday night, showcasing their commitment to community engagement – a value Quinn has upheld since his own days in youth hockey.
"I was fortunate enough to grow up in a town where community was everything, said Quinn, a Lancaster, Mass. Native. "People were willing to lend a hand to each other, so to be able to come down here to Long Island and reciprocate the same thing and give back to people is awesome."
Quinn has played a key role in leading the team through numerous impactful community-driven activities. His leadership has been instrumental in organizing over a dozen service events, highlighting the Sharks' commitment to Long Island and the New York City Metropolitan Area.
Their involvement at the Massapequa Fire Department stands out, where Quinn and the team packed over 15,000 Thanksgiving meals for those in need, emphasizing their unwavering dedication to helping the community.
LIU returns to the Northwell Health Ice Center Saturday at 7p.m. for its inaugural Teddy Bear Toss Game against Vermont.
