MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. -
Isaac Lambert scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner, and the Long Island University men's ice hockey team (13-18-1) defeated the University of Alaska Anchorage (5-27-1), 4-3, on Friday night in the inaugural United Collegiate Hockey Cup at Centene Community Ice Center.
After falling behind halfway through the second, Lambert tied the game with a goal at 13:56 of the period, assisted by
J.R Perdion.
Lambert's first goal of the night sparked a three-goal surge by LIU. Moments later on the power play,
Noah Serdachny scored his first of two goals, assisted by
Trevor Griebel and
Nate Benoit, giving the Sharks a 2-1 lead.
Serdachny scored again, finding the back of the net 30 seconds into the third period with an unassisted goal that stretched LIU's lead to 3-1.
With the game tied 3-3 and the five-minute three-on-three overtime session nearly expired, Lambert snapped a wrist shot from the right circle past UAA goalie Bryant Marks, sealing the victory.
Alaska Anchorage outshot LIU 40-22, but Sharks goaltender
Daniel Duris made 37 saves and LIU blocked 22 total shots.
LIU will conclude its season tomorrow afternoon in the third-place game versus fourth-seeded Stonehill College. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
