BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU football team closed the 2023 season with three wins in its final four games. And the Sharks were recognized on Wednesday with a slew of individual honors for student-athletes' contributions to the second-place finish in the NEC.
Defensive end
Eric O'Neill was selected the NEC Defensive Player of the Year. He was joined on the All-NEC first team by tight end
Owen Glascoe, defensive back
Jai Roe and punter
Will Lynch.
Meanwhile,
Davon Wells earned a pair of spots on the second team — as a receiver and return specialist. He was joined as second-team All-NEC selections by offensive lineman
Jake Timm and linebacker
Daylen Fuller.
O'Neill, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound redshirt sophomore from Staten Island, on Tuesday had been named a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which goes to the FCS defensive player of the year. O'Neill was the NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022.
