Eric O'Neill Voted NEC Defensive Player of Year; 7 Sharks Earn All-NEC Football Honors

11/22/2023 3:00:00 PM

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU football team closed the 2023 season with three wins in its final four games. And the Sharks were recognized on Wednesday with a slew of individual honors for student-athletes' contributions to the second-place finish in the NEC.

Defensive end Eric O'Neill was selected the NEC Defensive Player of the Year. He was joined on the All-NEC first team by tight end Owen Glascoe, defensive back Jai Roe and punter Will Lynch.

Meanwhile, Davon Wells earned a pair of spots on the second team — as a receiver and return specialist. He was joined as second-team All-NEC selections by offensive lineman Jake Timm and linebacker Daylen Fuller.

O'Neill, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound redshirt sophomore from Staten Island, on Tuesday had been named a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which goes to the FCS defensive player of the year. O'Neill was the NEC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022.
