BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Quarterback
Luca Stanzani returned … and the LIU football team continued its winning ways in its home finale.
After celebrating Senior Day, the Sharks defeated Wagner, 49-14, on Saturday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
LIU earned its third straight victory, and will attempt to close its season with four straight wins for a second straight year when it plays at Stonehill next Saturday.
Owen Glascoe had a rushing and receiving touchdown in the first half, and the teams were tied at 14 at halftime. The Sharks then outscored the Seahawks 35-0 in the second half.
Stanzani, who engineered last year's season-closing four-game winning streak, returned from a shoulder injury that had sidelined him since the second game of the season.
He shared quarterbacking duties with this year's true freshman sensation,
Chris Howell.
Stanzani passed for two touchdowns on Saturday, while Howell completed one TD pass.
Angelo Rodriguez and
Jaden Dawkins contributed the first rushing touchdowns of their LIU careers.
Antwan Spencer had nine tackles, while
Eric O'Neill and
Daylen Fuller contributed eight apiece.
During a pregame Senior Day ceremony, coach
Ron Cooper honored 11 seniors — Glascoe,
Antwan Spencer,
Kyren Petteway,
Larry Elder,
Jai Roe,
Javal Staton,
Mike Destin,
Kevin Wilson,
Dom Barbuto,
Matt Aloni and
Vincent Sciglitano.
