ALBANY, N.Y.— The LIU women's volleyball team took a break from NEC play when it traveled to Albany to take on the Great Danes Tuesday night.
In what was an absolute nailbiter, the Sharks grabbed the victory in four sets 25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 27-25.
This was another back-and-forth match for LIU, but this time they would not let the match get away from them. While Albany had large leads at times, the Sharks kept on fighting and would not go away. This determination would lead to them stealing both sets one, three, and four even though they trailed late in all three.
In the fourth and what turned out to be the final set, LIU trailed 24-21 until kills by
Selina Koç and Selina Gonzalez brought the team back to even. Albany would take the lead once again but a service error and back-to-back kills by
Rumur Rouille would seal the win.
Camelia Melendez had a match-leading 16 kills while also recording six digs and three service aces.
Sibana González had the best match of her collegiate career so far, tallying nine kills, fourteen digs, four service aces, and an assist.
Indira Benitez was third on the team with five kills, followed by
Bria Plante who had four and also added 2.5 blocks.
Alasha Colon led the Sharks with 15 digs while Koç led with 24 assists.
Allie Merz was second in assists with seven.
The Sharks return to the court on Friday when they travel to Massachusetts take on Merrimack at 5 p.m.
