Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y. —  The LIU men's water polo team traveled to New Rochelle to take on Iona Wednesday night.
 
The Sharks battled all match but ultimately fell 13-11.
 
Karl Lovett and Josep Jodra Muñoz opened up the scoring to grab early 2-0 lead, but the Gaels responded with three in a row to take the lead. CWPA Player of the Week Honor Roll nominee Riyad Shehadeh and Jodra Muñoz put two in the back of the net to regain a lead for LIU and the battle was on.
 
The match continued to be back and forth until Iona started to pull ahead late in the third period. The young Sharks squad tried for a late comeback with three minutes in the fourth period after goals from Shehadeh and Charlie Downey but the clock would run out on them.
 
CWPA Defensive Player of the Week Ethan Zirh kept the Sharks in the match with 16 saves, bringing his season total to 167.
 
Shehadeh led LIU with four goals followed by Jodra. Muñoz and Lovett with two. Downey, Tony Franco and CWPA Rookie of the Week Honor Roll nominee Anthony Gauna each added one.
 
The Sharks return to the pool on Saturday when they take on No. 6 Princeton on the Steinberg Wellness Center at 12 p.m.
