NEW BRITAIN, CONN.— Amaris Smith and the LIU women's volleyball team took care of business on Friday night, completing their season sweep of CCSU in four sets (26-28, 25-21, 27-25, 25-18).
The Sharks and Blue Devils battled all night long. CCSU came back late to steal the first set, but that did not deter the Sharks. They quickly bounced back and after rattling off seven straight points took the second set to even the match.
The third set was much like the first when CCSU came back from a late deficit, but this time a clutch block by
Amaris Smith and attack error from the Blue Devils gave LIU the lead. The Sharks handled business in the fourth set and took home the win.
Smith led the Sharks with 16 kills while
Camelia Melendez added nine more.
Cristal Paulino Rubel had a big match, recording eight kills on ten attempts.
Selina Koç led the Sharks with 26 assists while
Allie Merz had one of her best performances of the season, recording 15.
Alasha Colon had 25 digs, bringing her season total to 460. Melendez was second with 14.
Rumur Rouille led LIU with six blocks.
The Sharks return to the court tomorrow on Friday when they travel to Sacred Heart at 4 p.m.
