Men's and Women's Swim Teams Show Promise, Jon Pepaj Era Underway

NEWARK, N.J. —  In the first meet under head coach Jon Pepaj, the LIU Men's and Women's Swim teams put up some impressive numbers at the NJIT Invitational.
 
Both teams came in third place, but a number of individuals showed lots of promise early.
 
Dani Chocano Fernández grabbed his first win of the season, beating the field by well over a second in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:08.76. He also grabbed second place in the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.33) and 200 yard butterfly (1:56.81)
 
Ethan Law was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.07.
 
Giannis Venetos was another winning Shark, taking the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.75. He also came in second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.74).
 
Summer Wenger and Mariajose Lopez Lizarraga came back-to-back in fourth and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:12.29 and 5:12.84.
 
Anapaula Gomez Janeiro finished in the second in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:43.66.
 
The Sharks will return to the pool on Friday when they take on Iona in a home meet at 5 p.m.
