BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Selina Koç reached a career milestone recording the 1,000th career assist of her collegiate career as the LIU women's volleyball team took on a tough non-conference opponent in Binghamton on Tuesday night.
The Sharks won the first set to jump out to an early 1-0 lead before falling in the second to even up the match. LIU battled in the next two sets, almost stealing both but the height of Binghamton was just too much. The Sharks fell in four sets 25-22, 15-25, 22-25, 18-25.
Koç finished the match with a team-high 28 assists, bringing her season total to 472.
Allie Merz was second on the team with 14.
Alasha Colon, who received her seventh straight NEC Prime Performer honor on Tuesday, was once against the LIU leader in digs, recording 23. Her NEC-leading total now sits at 397.
Camelia Melendez, also an NEC Prime Performer, and
Amaris Smith were co-leaders in kills with 14.
Indira Benitez was third with seven.
Rumur Rouille was the LIU leader in blocks with three, followed by
Celine Mukura (two) and
Bria Plante (one).
The Sharks return to conference on Friday when they welcome Merrimack to the Steinberg Wellness Center at 6 p.m.
