BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU women's basketball caught fire in the fourth and engineered an 11-0 scoring run to cut into its deficit.
Despite the offensive spurt, the Sharks fell to Saint Francis U., 62-51, and moved to 2-14 overall.
Back-to-back threes from
Mariah Elohim and
Shyan Mwai cut into the 17-point deficit in the fourth. After a few defensive stops, Elohim's second three of the quarter brought the game within seven.
LIU raced out to a 30-28 halftime lead to begin the game. A
De'Asia Thomas jumper was ruled no good at the buzzer, so the lead remained at two.
The defense held the Red Flash to a 36% clip from the floor and forced nine turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
Elohim finished with 17 on 7-14 shooting that included a 3-6 mark from deep. Mwai added 14 and five rebounds after scoring 23 at Wagner last Sunday.
LIU returns to action on Monday at St. Francis Brooklyn at 2 p.m.
