BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Saarah Olton got the LIU field hockey team on the scoreboard shortly before halftime and the Sharks never looked back.
In the home opener on Sunday, LIU defeated La Salle, 3-1, at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Olton, a senior from Trinidad and Tobago, finished with two goals and an assist.
Olton's second goal staked LIU to a 2-0 lead in the third quarter.
After La Salle pulled within a goal early in the fourth quarter,
Felicia King answered 24 seconds later to restore a two-goal cushion.
Maggie Streichert made eight saves en route to earning her first career victory.
"To get a win in our first home game is a great feeling," Olton said.
LIU (1-3) returns to action Friday at Temple.
