BROOKLYN, N.Y. — LIU women's volleyball got back in the win column on Wednesday.
The Sharks took care of Manhattan in straight sets, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-8 in the 2022 home opener.
Before the match, head coach
Ken Ko was recognized for his 100th career victory, receiving a signed ball from his team.
"It was a really nice gesture, and I appreciate Dr. Martinov and the administration for acknowleding that," Ko said.
After trailing 6-4 in the opening set, LIU regained the lead and never trailed.
Karolina Nova collected five kills in the first, pacing the offense.
Barbora Hošková finished with eight while
Amaris Smith notched seven.
In a crucial spot in set two,
Jordan MacDonald subbed on and had two-straight service aces to push the Sharks lead to five.
LIU finished with a .300 hitting percentage, its highest mark this season.
Sophie Young had 17 assists.
"We needed that," Ko said. "I like the way the team played. It was a good boost for us to get that feeling again, so we hope we can keep it up."
