SHARKS WIN! Baseball Completes Sweep Against Merrimack, 9-4

ANDOVER, Mass. – The LIU baseball team broke out their brooms and completed the sweep of Merrimack, taking game three 9-4 behind four hits and 5 RBIs from Christopher Wasson. On the mound, Nick Torres only allowed to two hits in five innings of work for his third win of the year. The Sharks improve to 26-12 and 11-4 in NEC play.

Merrimack struck first for the third straight game, with three runs in the bottom of the first inning off a pair of home runs from Michael Golankiewicz and Alex Haba.

It was in the top of the third that Wasson, with the bases loaded, sent a ball over the fence for a grand slam. LIU retook the lead, 5-3. This was Wasson's first grand slam and fourth long ball of the season.

The offense continued to be potent in the next inning with Giovanni Ciaccio driving another runner home before Wasson brought in yet another run to make it 7-3 Sharks.

The Warriors would score once more in the bottom of the fourth, but two more runs in the sixth courtesy of Ciaccio solo home run and wild pitch that scored Wasson locked up the 9-4 victory for LIU.

LIU bats were on fire throughout the contest as multiple players finished with multiple hits. Along with Wasson's four hits, Ciaccio, Christopher Hund, EJ Exposito, and Colin Adams each added two hits to their lines on the stat sheet.

On the mound Torres found his groove, allowing just two hits and zero runs in five innings of work. He had a 1-2-3 ninth inning, to finish out the winning series.

The Sharks are back in action on Friday when they travel to Fairfield, Connecticut to take on Sacred Heart. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
