BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – For the second straight Saturday,
Whitney Moran was the most productive player on the field.
Moran notched another five-goal game, her second in three games, as LIU took down Merrimack 14-11. The Sharks win streak grows to three, and they now sit at 5-11 overall and 4-3 against Northeast Conference opponents.
"We are playing really well and getting into a great groove together," said head coach
Meghan McNamara. "We have had very solid team wins the past few games and we're looking forward to using that momentum going into our last regular season game."
The Warriors had a 10-9 lead late to start the fourth, but LIU rattled off five unanswered goals from five different players to grow the lead and maintain it to the end.
Hannah Kenneally had the go-ahead score on a free-position attempt with 12:01 left.
Keneally poured in seven points on three goals and four assists, a new career-high.
Olivia Fantigrossi had two goals, and
Leah Nonnenmann,
Amanda Masullo,
Francesca Vasile-Cozzo, and
Isabelle Peng each had one.
It was a quiet day in cage for
Hailey Duchnowski as she saved only four shots, but she earned her fifth win of 2022.
Gina Toscano stole the show in the draw circle, winning nine draws to lead both sides and shattering her previous high of five that she set on Wednesday against CCSU.
"This group has shown their perseverance this whole season and today was a nice day for them," said McNamara. "We are really proud of the team."
With the victory, the Sharks look to close the season on a winning streak as they host Howard next Saturday, April 30, at 1:00 p.m.
