ANDOVER, MA – The LIU baseball team defeated Merrimack 6-2 thanks to home runs from
Seth Surrett and
Christopher Wasson, along with strong pitching from starter
Jalen Wade. The Sharks record shifts to 25-12 and 10-4 in NEC play.
Unlike yesterdays game, offense was quick to come by with Merrimack scoring in the bottom of the second inning and LIU answering right back in the top of the third with Surrett knocking a homerun over the right field wall to tie the game 1-1.
The fifth inning saw the Sharks have some of their best offense and base running of the game with
Michael Edelman advancing home on a wild pitch to push the Sharks ahead 4-1. Wasson took Merrimack pitcher Tyghe Healy over the right field wall to make it 5-1 in the next at bat.
Even with a late run from the Warriors in the sixth inning, the Sharks had extra run support in the eighth inning to lock up the 6-2 victory. This was LIU's fourth victory out of five contests against Merrimack this season.
On the mound,
Jalen Wade saw six innings of work and only allowed two runs while picking up the win.
Nick DeSalvo came in for relief and in 2.2 innings of works struck out four Warriors batters and allowed no runs with only two hits.
Aside from homeruns from Surrett and Wasson, four other Sharks picked up hits in the competition with Edelman,
Giovanni Ciaccio, Colin Harper, and
Bentley Boekhout reaching base safely.
The Sharks are back in action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in Andover as they look for the sweep of Merrimack and second NEC series sweep this season.
