DAYTONA, Fla. – As the final day wrapped up at the NEC Championships at LPGA International, LIU women's golf was able to look at the leaderboard and see two golfers finish inside the top-10.
Julia Towne shot a 73 on round two, which was tied for second lowest among all golfers, to round out a 15-over-par finish for fourth overall.
Ashlee Garrett shot below 80 on two of three rounds to finish tied for ninth.
"Julia and Ashlee were strong seniors who led the team well, were motivating, and brought their A-game in competition," said head coach
Lily Bartell. "I'm proud of the progress everyone on the team made this season with their physical, mental, and strategic games.
The fifth-place finish as a team shows improvement from a year ago where the Sharks finished sixth at the NEC Championships in 2021.
"I'm so thankful to have been given the opportunity to coach such a great group of student-athletes and grateful that they welcomed me in mid-year and we worked together toward a successful season," said head coach
Lily Bartell.
In the middle of the pack,
Vera Arrébola Granes and Lexi Delorimiere finished 20
th and tied for 21
st respectively.
Juliana De Leon rounded out the leaderboard and finished 38
th at the tournament.
The Sharks conclude the 2021-22 season by showing a steady improvement from just a year ago, including an individual win from Towne at the Quail Valley Spring Invitational.
"I'm proud of what we accomplished this season," said Bartell. "We accumulated several top 10 finishes, an individual win, and top 3 team finishes. We are so excited to keep working toward tournament and NEC titles in the upcoming seasons."
