SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The LIU men's lacrosse team traveled to Bryant for its first Northeast Conference away matchup of 2022, falling to the Bulldogs, 8-4. With the result, the Sharks fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in NEC play.
Blake Behlen scored the game's first goal after an opening faceoff win from
Justin Joseph. It was 1-0, LIU, within the first minute. Bryant responded on a turnover to tie the game at one apiece just moments later. The Bulldogs scored another goal at the 6:27 mark to take a 2-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.
In the second period, Bryant added two more goals, with one coming on a man-up chance, to take a 4-1 lead going into halftime.
Will Mark collected seven saves in the quarter to keep the Sharks within three.
LIU scored first in the third when Behlen scored an unassisted goal, his second of the afternoon, to bring the score to 4-2, Bryant. The Sharks maintained the pressure, having two shots saved in back-to-back possessions. They broke through off a goal from
Will Snelders at the 4:53 mark in the third, shrinking the deficit to one. The Bulldogs would respond and rattle off three straight to extend the lead to 7-3 entering the fourth.
Bryant had Goforth called for a penalty at the 9:31 mark, making way for
Sean Boll to score on the man-up off an assist from
Jake Gillis, making it 7-4. The Bulldogs would add the final goal with under two minutes to seal the game, 8-4. Mark finished the contest with 18 saves, one shy of his season high.
