Men's Lacrosse Hosts Saint Joseph's

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – LIU men's lacrosse hosted Saint Joseph's in a pivotal Northeast Conference matchup on Saturday, falling to the Hawks, 14-10. The Sharks were able to bring the deficit to one goal on multiple occasions, but it proved to be too large of a lead to overcome as LIU moves to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the NEC.

After a slow start in the first, the Sharks scored a couple of goals early in the second to narrow the deficit to one, but Saint Joseph's continued to pile on goals, leading 8-4 at the half. The four goals were distributed evenly between the offense with Jake Gillis, Blake Behlen, Marcin Maleski, and Sean Boll each finding the back of the net.

The Sharks scored four of the first five goals in the third, including Jake Murphy's first of the season to bring the game to 9-8. That was as close as LIU would come as the Hawks closed the door by going on a 3-1 run to close the contest, 14-10.

Behlen, Boll, and Gillis each finished with two goals apiece. Boll and Richie LaCalandra contributed two assists, and Tommy Ramsey, Nick Colantonio, Gillis and Behlen all had assists of their own.

Despite the loss, Will Mark scooped up 14 saves in cage and had three ground balls. Senior captain Ryan Blume anchored the defense with four caused turnovers, which ties his career-high. Chris Campbell caused two turnovers, as well.

After its last home game of 2022, LIU will travel to Hobart College next Saturday, April 23 at 12:00 p.m.
