SHARKS WIN! No. 1 Women's Tennis Opens NEC Tournament with 4-0 Takedown of No. 8 Wagner

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The No. 1 seeded LIU women's tennis team shutout No. 8 seed Wagner, 4-0, on Thursday morning to advance to the semifinals of the NEC Championships. This is the second time this season that the Sharks managed blockade the Seahawks; the last instance was a 5-0 victory on March 27.
 
SHARK BITES
  • The Sharks set the tempo early winning on doubles courts one and two to take the 1-0 match lead.
  • In singles play Victoria Erechtchenko picked up LIU's first individual point of the postseason with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Fidan Khalizade on court three to help the Sharks go ahead 2-0.
  • Kate Jorjoliani quickly made it 3-0 with a near perfect straight set win against Ysabella Uy, 6-1, 6-0 on court six
  • It was Elinor Storkaas who clinched the 4-0 match victory for the Sharks with her 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Alegra D'Alessandro on court five
  • This is the second straight year that LIU has shutout their opening round opponent in the NEC tournament. Last season, the Sharks defeated the Bryant Bulldogs 4-0. 
  • The Sharks will face either No. 4 Bryant or No. 5 St. Francis Brooklyn tomorrow, Friday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
