Men's Lacrosse Takes On Drexel

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU men's lacrosse team welcomed Drexel on Saturday afternoon, falling 10-8 to the Dragons in a non-conference matchup. The Sharks move to 3-3 on the season.

  • LIU jumped out in front in the first, thanks to a Jake Gillis goal, his seventh of the season. With 15 seconds left in the first, Richie LaCalandra fired in a goal to make it 2-0 Sharks after one period.
  • Drexel scored four unanswered in the second to begin the period, with two goals being a man-up. 
  • To end the half, the Sharks responded with two goals. LaCalandra and Blake Behlen scored unassisted goals to tie the game at 4-4 heading into halftime. 
  • LIU had two goals scored in less than a minute when Nick Colantonio scored on a man-up and Behlen added his team-leading 13th goal of the year to take a 6-4 lead with five minutes left in the third.
  • The Dragons scored the next five goals spanning to the 6:55 mark in the fourth before Gillis tabbed his second goal of the game on a Behlen assist. Will Snelders scored a goal with 20 seconds left for the Sharks final goal of the contest.
  • With Snelders goal, he is now tied for first in LIU history for goals in a career, tying the mark set by Matty Beccaris (2013-16).
  • Behlen and LaCalandra finished with two goals and two assists apiece, and Gillis also finished with two goals. Snelders and Colantonio each added a goal, and Thomas von Bargen notched an assist. 
  • Up next, the Sharks will travel to UMass to face the Minutemen on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m.
