BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – After wrapping up the 2021-22 season, the LIU men's ice hockey team had several athletes sign professional contracts for their hockey careers moving forward. Eight former Sharks have signed contracts in the East Coast Hockey League, Southern Professional Hockey League, and American Hockey League.
"I could not be more excited for our players to embark on their professional careers," head coach
Brett Riley said. "These young men have impacted our program both on and off the ice and been instrumental to our program's build. We wish them the best on the next chapter and look forward to following them in professional hockey."
The first signing came when
Billy Jerry inked a deal with the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL, already scoring his first professional goal. In 2022, Jerry led the Sharks offense with 14 goals and was second on the squad with 15 assists. Most notably, Jerry scored all four goals in 4-3 win over Brown on January 30.
Max Balinson signed a contract with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL, an affiliate with the NHL's Buffalo Sabres. Ballinson appeared in 17 games this season for the Sharks, scoring four goals and adding four assists.
Derek Osik put the pen to the paper with the Evansville Thunderbolts of the SPHL. Osik spent the last two season with the Sharks, accumulating 27 appearances with a goal and five assists. His one goal and four assists in 2022 were both career highs in his collegiate career.
Carson Musser recently signed a deal with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL, the affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL. Musser played in 31 games this past season, scoring four goals and dishing out eight assists, which was tied for fourth among all players.
Jordan Timmons signed his deal with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL, the team announced on Monday, March 21. After stops at Robert Morris University and the University of Connecticut, Timmons finished his collegiate career with the Sharks in 2021-22, playing in 29 games and scoring eight goals and collecting eight assists, which was good for second and fifth on the team, respectively. Timmons earned back-to-back two goal outings against Post and Assumption in October of this season.
