BRONX, N.Y. – LIU baseball traveled to the Bronx to face Fordham on Friday afternoon, taking down the Rams, 9-4.
Joshua Loeschorn started and earned his team-leading fourth win on the mound this season. Additionally, the Sharks tallied 16 hits and four homeruns, which are both season highs. With the win, LIU improves to 7-7 on the year, and Fordham falls to 2-10.
SHARK BITES
- The Rams scored the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Jack Power and Giovanni Ciaccio collected back-to-back singles to put two runners on base in the third. With two outs, EJ Exposito hit his second home run of the season to left field to score three runs, taking a 3-1 lead. Fordham added a run in the bottom half to make it 3-2, LIU.
- The fourth inning saw three more runs cross the plate for LIU. After Luke Turner and Christopher Wasson got on base, Seth Surrett doubled to right to score Wasson to push the lead to 4-2. Colin Adams followed Surrett with a two-run homerun, his first of the year, to give the Sharks a 6-2 advantage.
- Exposito began the fifth with his second homerun of the afternoon on a solo shot to left field. Two batters later, Turner added a solo shot of his own to left, upping the LIU lead to 8-2.
- The Rams added a run in the sixth, making it 8-3.
- Kurt Lange came in relief of Loeschorn in the seventh, getting out of a jam with a runner in scoring position. The lead held firm at five runs for the Sharks.
- After Fordham scored a run in the eighth, LIU responded with a groundout RBI from Wasson, making it 9-4 in the ninth.
- Nick Torres took the bump in the bottom of the ninth to go for the save. After a walk, Torres punched out a batter before a force at second to get two outs. With a runner in scoring position, Torres struck out Mexico swinging to close down Fordham, 9-4.
- Loeschorn was credited the win after going six innings and giving up two earned runs on six hits, striking out five. Torres was given the save, contributing two innings out of the bullpen.
