NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The LIU men's lacrosse team opened the 2022 campaign at No. 10 Rutgers University on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks fell to the Scarlet Knights, 15-6. Will Snelders led LIU with two goals, and Sean Boll, Jake Gillis, Ryan Blume, and Blake Behlen each had one goal. 
 
SHARK BITES

• Boll fired in the first goal of LIU's season at the 4:15 mark in the second quarter to bring the score to 6-1. Jake Murphy had the assist. 
• With 1:11 remaining in the second, Snelders was able to put one in the back of the net to make it 7-2, Rutgers. Will Mark had 11 saves at halftime.
• The Scarlet Knights scored quick out of the locker room, but the Sharks responded when Nick Grant found Gillis for a goal to make it 8-3. A minute later, LIU added another goal from Blume to bring the deficit to four at 8-4.
• Rutgers answered with a three-nothing run of its own, pushing the lead to 11-4.
• With four seconds left in the third, Gillis connected with Behlen for a last-second goal. It was 11-5 heading into the final frame.
• On a man-up opportunity, Snelders scored his second goal of the game to bring the score to 13-6. 
• Up next, the Sharks will host Siena on Saturday, February 12 for their first home game of the 2022 season.
