SHARKS WIN! Women’s Tennis Takes Down UConn, 4-3

BETHPAGE, N.Y. – The LIU women's tennis team hosted UConn on Friday, and bested the Huskies, 4-3 in a closely contested match. The Sharks won the doubles point, before heading into a thrilling rapid-fire session of singles play.

SHARK BITES
  • After winning the doubles point, the Sharks grabbed another point with Bianca Compuesto's win on court five to go ahead of the Huskies 2-0.
  • In quick succession, the visitors would come back, and three wins in a row in singles on courts four, one, and six had UConn up 3-2 with two courts still left in play.
  • It didn't take long for Sofiya Kuzina to level the match 3-3 with a win on court three, and then it all came down to Valentina Dancenco on court two. Dancenco had grabbed the 6-4 win in the first set, but the second set was a battle that went to a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker broke for LIU when Dancenco won 7-6(5), and claimed the victory for the Sharks.
  • Up next, the Sharks are going to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's University on Saturday February 26 at 7:15 p.m.
