GENEVA, Ohio – The LIU women's swim team captured its first gold medal of the weekend Friday, when junior Ella Johnson defended her title in the 200 butterfly by winning the event. The Sharks sit in third in the team standings heading into the final day of action.
 
SHARK BITES

• Junior Ella Johnson won the 200 butterfly by a full two seconds, taking gold with a time of 2:01.21. Freshman Annalise Stingle took sixth in the championship finals, with a time of 2:05.15.
• LIU also earned a silver medal in the 400 medley relay. The team of Jacqueline Grabowski, Venna Andersen, Allie Bashor and Johnson came in second with a time of 3:45.03.
• Grabowski continued her regular podium appearances, taking bronze in the championship final of the 100 back with a time of 55.16. Sophomore Sara Rodriguez Rubio came in fifth in 56.65, while Rea Shehu took eighth in 57.10.
• Sophomore Venna Andersen also took bronze Friday, coming in third in the 100 breaststroke championship final with a time of 1:03.81.
• Aidan Condit came in second in the consolation finals of the 100 back, and 10th overall, with a time of 57.19, while junior Mouton Magali took 16th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.41.
• The Sharks sit in third place in the team standings after 29 events, with a team score of 327.5. Saturday's preliminaries begin at 10 a.m.
